The One of Us European Cultural Platform has been created by the One of Us European Federation. It was officially launched on 23 February 2019 at the Palais du Luxembourg in Paris. Its official name is: ‘The One of Us European Cultural Platform – For a Europe that is committed to the promotion of the dignity of the human being’.
The One of Us Federation brings together some forty associations for the defence of life and human dignity, including the Jérôme-Lejeune Foundation for France. This Federation is non-partisan and non-denominational. The One of Us Federation has been established as a result of the One of Us European Citizens’ Initiative. It was launched in May 2012 to call on the Commission to stop EU funding of programmes involving the destruction of human embryos. This initiative has now generated more than 1.8 million signatures.
The cultural platform is aimed at intellectuals (“thinkers”) who wish to combine their efforts towards the liberation of intelligences in a Europe that is committed to human dignity. Their ambition is to form a truly cultural, meta-political front in a time of crisis. One of the objectives they have set themselves is to reopen many questions that are considered to have been resolved, particularly in the field of anthropology. They identify themselves in the Platform Manifesto which was drafted following the Valencia Conference (June 2018) and approved in Paris on 23 February 2019.
The organisation of the platform, chaired by the President of the Federation Jaime Maior Oreja (Spain) is based on three panels:
– A coordination committee led by Professor Rémi Brague, Jaime Mayor Oreja, President of the One of Us European Federation, and Jean-Marie Le Méné, President of the Jérôme-Lejeune Foundation;
– A scientific committee (Directorate of Studies and Reflection) led by Professors Rémi Brague, Thibaud Collin and Guillaume Bernard;
– An operational committee headed by Thierry de La Villejégu responsible for maintaining links and relations with intellectuals, working in collaboration with all national delegations, and driving an internal and external communication platform.
On the 19th of October 2019 in Santiago de Compostela, the One of Us cultural platform created the One of Us Observatory for the dignity of the human person in Europe in order to structure its work. Its objective? to make the most accurate possible diagnosis of the threats to human dignity in Europe.
