Brussels, 25 June 2021. The European Federation One of Us expresses its deep disappointment and regrets the result of the recent vote on the Matić Report by the European Parliament that directly attacks the principle of subsidiarity and notably abandons the path of respect the fundamental human rights, such as right to life, contained in the Union Treaty itself and in the International Treaties.
The president of the One of Us Federation Jaime Mayor Oreja points out that the approval of this Matić report is “nonsense, an aberration that slides on the slippery plane of fostering the culture of death. They are not right, nor do they have reasons to advance in this crisis of civilization. They are winning in this advance but they will surely fail sooner than later because this model that they propose leads us to total disorder, to chaos”.
The president of the Italian Movement for Life, Marina Casini affirms that: “The result of the vote on the Matic report is very frustrating because it shows how much Europe, which has contributed to the development of the world, has fallen into a deep crisis, turning into the grave of the human rights. However, this result should not lead us to surrender, but to a greater mobilization of energies to make the true face of Europe shine again: the face of the dignity of every person from conception and the consequent fundamental right to life and right of freedom of conscience. ”
Ignacio García Juliá, President of the Spanish Family Forum declares that: “It is clear that the culture of death is spreading across Europe in the face of the indolence and indifference of those who should defend life. However, in the face of this attack on life and human dignity, we must respond with a strong purpose of mobilization and a promise to European society that all these anti-humanist laws and policies will be reversed sooner than they think ”
Cornelia Kaminski, Federal President of Action to Live Right for All in Germany, shows her disappointment at “the attack that this report supposes on the principle of subsidiarity and respect for the sovereignty of the Member States. Framing the right to abortion and surrogacy as part of the European Union’s fight for gender equality is the first step towards establishing binding European laws for all member states that favor abortion, end the freedom of conscience for doctors, freedom of religion for hospitals and staff, freedom of expression for NGOs fighting against the murder of innocent unborn children”.
